Hearts on Fire

Hearts of Fire

Scripture: Leviticus 6:8-13

The book talks about the sacrifices and offerings to God, to establish that there is a price to be paid for something. While we no longer do so in modern days, we pay in tithes, offering and efforts for God. The verse tell of how to keep the fire burning...if it goes unattended,  it will go out. Paul also instructed Timothy in the 2nd book of  Timothy 1:6 to fan the flame.

God sets our heart on fire, but we must keep it burning. How to do this?

1. Add fuel - fill with godly living
Lev 6:12 says that the priest is to add firewood, arrange the burnt offering and burn the fat. Godly living come with the following fundamentals: praying, reading the Word, doing our quiet time, worshipping him, serving, etc.
Seek first the kingdom of God - it is not the large conferences or events, but the day to day little things to keep it going.

How does Jesus keep the fire going? After working his miracles and other big moments Jesus withdrew to lonely, solitary places and pray. Do not expect the fire to be burning strong when you are not feeding it.

2. Remove ash - free yourself from past experience
The more fire burns the more ash it will produce. The more ash accumulates it will affect the fire as it will prevent the air intake (usually at the bottom).

Ash represents the items that chokes the fire, the bad things and even the good things. The prophet Isaiah tells us to forget the former things (chapter 43), do not dwell in the past...for God is doing a new thing! Rather then remembering the good ol'  days, let's encounter God in our next quiet time.
