Worshipping God is not just what we do in the Church, but the way we live our lives. Question: are we worshipping and chasing other things other than God.
Scripture: Luke 7:36-48
The story describes woman who wiped the feet of Jesus with her hair and put alabaster perfume on it. Simon the Pharisee said the woman is a sinner and murmured how expensive the cost of the perfume. Jesus responded that the greater the sin, the more the sinner will love him.
Despite all that the woman did, she was unnamed in the Bible because Worship is all about God.
What is worship that pleases God?
1. Worship that pleases God is not SELF-CENTRED. It is all about God
Worship sometimes carries a consumer mentality - we become idle judges of the activity - as opposed to being active participants of the act of worship. Worship that pleases God requires sacrifice. If we wish to live a life of worship, sacrifice towards God has to be evident in your daily life, i.e. in household chores, in our speech, in our behavior.
2. Worship that pleases God is not FAKE. It is all about real us.
Jesus saw the heart of the woman who broke the jar of precious perfume, because this symbolizes the brokenness of her life. We have to beware of the trap of "going thru the motions", as the warning that "their hearts are far from me"...one that plague many long-time Christians.
Have we forgotten our indebtedness to Jesus? Have we forgotten the pit that Jesus rescued us from? Brokenness is not a feeling or emotion. It is a lifestyle of choice, to be honest before God.
