To Travel the World
The dream of many is to be able to make enough to pay the bills (ours and the family's) in addition to the ability to buy pretty much anything we want (within reason) and to travel the world. This site is to address part 3 of the dream - to travel the world.
Obviously, the simplest thing to do is to pay an agency for group tours and have them take care of everything. This may be required if you are travelling to a place that is unfamiliar or if the planning is taking too much time off the daily scheme of things such as work or child-rearing.
There are 3 types of travel planning:
- 100% planning done by agent: fixed itinerary or customized (more expensive). Price also varies depending on the number of pax per group.
- Hybrid travel: flights by traveler + itinerary by agent (tour starts from airport onwards). Good for those who can utilize frequent flyer miles.
- Self-plan travel: 100% planning by traveler aka Free and Easy
The type of travel usually dependent on the location: for places in US/Canada, Australia. New Zealand, Europe and some parts of Asia such as Singapore and Malaysia where English is widely spoken, I guess it is fine to plan your own travel. Same rule applies if you speak French/Spanish and you are going to French-speaking or Spanish-speaking countries.
You can start here: Planning a Trip
Another reason for self-planning (or not) could be the access of booking the various tours or accommodation in that particular location. The main language may be English or the language you speak well but there are not a lot of option for online booking for ticket/tours or accommodation. One good gauge is to look at travel sites such as Klook to see the tours available.
Once you have explored the various option and still unable to get a good feeling of the plan, then and only then we go the next step of hybrid travel or with travel agent.
Last but no least, in order to travel well, we need to have the necessary gear. To be honest, I am still figuring this one out...sure, I have bought quite a few things but not all are recommended. Anyway, here are some that has made the list (and are good): Travel Gear
To help with the planning, here are some places that I have been. You can use the information to plan your own trip. Of course, you can copy exactly where I have been, or perhaps (with a little bit more research), do something even better...
Some places to consider to consider if you are planning for your next trip:
