Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)
For those clueless about this, VEP stands for Vehicle Entry Permit, supposedly a must thing do when the Malaysia government announced it in 2019 (I think). It was meant to make it "easier" for cars to pay the RM20 at the checkpoints. Although optional when it was first introduced, it became compulsory for cars entering Malaysia 1 Oct 2024...or so it seems.
In the weekend nearer to 1 Oct 2024, there was a huge drop of cars entering Johor Bahru (JB)...which meant a large drop in earnings, as much one-third for the businesses in JB. For financial reasons, the Malaysian authorities have since updated that the deadline has been pushed back...no dates were given yet when they will enforce tis.
Generally, most car owners, at least the ones that I have spoken to, from Singapore are OK to install the VEP. The only problem is how get the RFID tag. While it is true that I have submitted the form in 2019, I have to resubmit all the details again in the TCSens website - the company tasked to work on the project of installing the RFID tags on the of cars in Singapore...in the hundreds of thousands. And that is where the problems began.
Almost every one that I spoke to concerning the VEP are complaining about getting no response for TCSens. According to the site, the password for the TCSens is the same one used when applying via the JPJ website. Mine did not work and no replies even with countless emails.
But in all fairness, the only issue is getting the reply. Once that is done, TCSens and the website is pretty straightforward.
When I finally got the reply to my email after several months, it was to correct the issue. Once I was able to log into the TCSens website, it was pretty simple - just need to update personal particulars plus update the latest Road Tax and insurance info (must must be the latest one), plus the COE (downloaded from One Motoring).
Once the form is completely filled up, then it takes about 2 weeks for RFID tag to reach my SGP address. The next action is to paste the tag on the left headlamp, plus scan and that is it.
Note: the RFID can only be pasted on the headlamp for those who opted to receive the RFID via post. They will only allow the tag passed on the windscreen for those installing the tag at the shop. The reason that was provided is that the Solar Film will interfere with the tag but I have not heard of anyone having this issue (yet).
