Sermon by Pastor Daniel Khong at the Faith Community Baptist Church on 22 Nov 2025.
What is the gospel?
This comes from the old English word godspel which means good news. And the good news means that we are firstly set free from death and destruction but also set apart for God's purpose and direction. Interestingly, the gospel is translated from the Greek euaggelion, which means that the gospel is not just to be received but to be shared. The issue that most have is that we just don't feel like doing it.
Scripture: Matthew 28 talks about the Great Commission, one of the last instructions from Jesus telling his disciples to share the good news.
What compels us to share the gospel? What makes us want to go out to be as what Paul when he says "eager to preach... for it is the power of God for salvation"?
1. A compassion for the lost
Without this, we will not go out to share. To be moved with compassion is not just be touched. But because there is immense compassion, Jesus has to step out and take action. Compassion is about concern. The question: are we concerned about others?
Ask God for a compassionate hearts, just as God is compassionate.
2. A conviction for the gospel
A conviction is a demonstration that one wholeheartedly believes in something. More than opinion, we must believe so much that we would be willing to take actions to fulfill our convictions. Jesus gave his life while Paul endured beatings, shipwrecks, and prisons, suffering because of the gospel.
Ask God to transform our hearts and minds so that we can be convicted to share the gospel.
One way to start is to pray that God will melt our hearts first. Commit to prayer to ask God to change our hearts so that the lost will be saved.
