Sermon by Senior Pastor Daniel Khong at. the Faith Community Baptist Church 2 May 2026.
Background: since we have been made new, we must live in love to others. The home is the ultinate arena (wheee gladiators fight), where love is most tested, and most gloriously displayed.
Scripture: Ephesians 6:1-4 is an istruction for children, and parents and tells us of how the gospel changes our lives. This is especially on how to relate to one another.
How can we practise love in our family?
1. Pray for one another
We need to understand how prayer affects our families. There is spiritual powers so we must parent from a spiritual perspective, which most lack as our lives get busy doing physical parenting. Paul commands us to pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests and for all God's peoples.
2. Serve one another
Parents serve therr children - feeding them, teaching them, spending time with them. Prayer covers the spiritual element, while serving covers the physical. The Christian faith is never just talk, but it has to follow up with action. We have to learn to make time to serve before it is too late.
3. Listen to one another
To listen = to hear but also to obey...
There is no description of age to honour our parents. We have to understand that we have to submit to one another out of reverance of Christ. Sometimes the children know more - AI versus proper intelligence. We have to listen to one another because the experience is different.
James tells us to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
